Just, Like, 50 or 60 Things to Do This Week

Tons going on, again.  Here’s what I’ve found:

All Week:

  • Annie Get Your Gun continues at the Park Playhouse on Tuesday the 6th at 8 pm.
  • The Animation Festival at Proctors continues through Friday.
  • Don’t forget that William K. Sanford (Colonie) Library has tons of activities–so many that I got overwhelmed early on and decided not to try to list them separately.
  • I pretty much exhausted myself trying to add Albany library activites, too.  So, if you’re inclined to go, check here for more.

Monday, July 12th:

Tuesday, July 13th:

  • Take a Turkey Trail Hike at 9 am at Moreau Lake State Park.
  • From 10 am to noon, it’s Summertime Tots at the Children’s Museum at Saratoga.  They have special outdoor activities for very young visitors.
  • The Regal Cinema free movie at 10 am today is Wallace & Gromit at Crossgates and Rugrats the Movie at Clifton Park.  We are big fans of Wallace & Gromit at our house.  Full of cleverness and double entendres so that it’s entertaining for adults, too.  Really, I just like Nick Park–did you ever see Creature Comforts?  Entertaining.  Which reminds me, we took the girls to see Marmaduke, at Scotia Cinema, on Saturday.  As anticipated, it was not so great, although the girls loved it.  But what was crazy was that there were these grown-up women behind us with no kids at all.  Like, couldn’t they think of 23 things they’d rather do, including seeing at least 9 or 10 better movies, than go to see freakin’ Marmaduke?  And then they were talking out loud, anticipating plot twists and turns.  Like it takes any talent whatsoever to anticipate the plot twists and turns of Marmaduke.  Sorry.  A little ranty, there.
  • This week’s free 10 am movie at Bowtie in Schenectady is Planet 51.
  • Kids ages 6 and up can learn Charcoal Drawing with the folks from Scotia-Glenville Children’s Museum at East Greenbush Library at 1 pm or 2:30 pm.  Registration is required.
  • Beau the Clown will be at Niskayuna Library at 2 pm.  Drop-in program
  • Make Ice Cream at the Pine Hills Branch Library at 2 pm.
  • Learn about Lizards at 2 pm at the North Albany Branch Library. For ages 6 and up.
  • TS Ensemble is playing at 6:30 pm at Cook Park in Colonie.
  • Just show up for Summer Pajama Time story hour at 7 pm at the East Greenbush Library.
  • At 7 pm there’s a Kids Concert with DJ Chaz at the Gazebo in Niskayuna.
  • Tonight’s Tri-City Valleycats is a 2-fer Tuesday with fireworks.

Wednesday, July 14th:

Thursday, July 15th:

  • Take a Walk in the Woods at Thacher at 9 am.
  • At Crossgates, there’s a  Regal Cinema free movie at 10 am today. I’m sorry that I still haven’t figured out this system, but calling a movie theater is difficult because all you get is recorded showtimes, and actually going to Crossgates sort of gives me hives.  Well, not really, but I have a bit of mall-goraphobia.  I’ll go to a mall, but it is not my favorite thing.  I become flustered, disoriented, and irritable within two hours, and, since I go so rarely, I usually spend about twice that when I actually do go.
  • From 10 am to noon, Baby Bookworms can show up with their caregivers for stories and playtime at the East Greenbush Library. For 0-36 months.
  • From 10 am to noon, Junior Naturalists can learn about Beautiful Birds at Dyken Pond.  $3/child, $6/family, and pre-registration is encouraged.
  • At 10 am, teens who want to volunteer to read stories will have a training at the Bethlehem Public Library.  Pre-registration is required.
  • At 11 am, the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library is having the first in a series of sessions for middle school math enthusiasts who want to become serious Mathletes.  Pre-registration required.
  • From noon to 1:30 pm it’s Jazz on Jay in Schenectady.  Don’t forget that there’s a small farmers’ market there, too.
  • At 1 pm it’s Craft Day at Thacher Nature Center.
  • At 2 pm, middle schoolers can do some Clay Play the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library. Registration is required.
  • At 2 pm there’s a Beach Party at Duane Branch Library.
  • At 2:30 pm at Schenectady’s Central Library, elementary-school kids can drop in for Oceans of Fun.
  • From 3-4 pm, Andy the Music Man will be playing at Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library.  This is a drop-in program geared for elementary-school-aged kids.
  • For Albany’s Alive at Five today, it’s Gloria Gaynor of “I Will Survive” fame.  Hey, that’s on my running playlist!
  • From 6-8 pm, the Red Haired Strangers will be playing Country & Delta Blues at Wiswall Park in Ballston Spa.
  • Top performers from Kidz Kabaret will be performing at the Crossings in Colonie at 6:30 pm.
  • At 7 pm, 6th-12th graders can just show up and participate in Minute to Win It-style challenges at the East Greenbush Library.

  1. Yes, Ellen, that’s the same link from my post, but here’s what I find confusing: for most theaters, it’s two movies and two days, Tuesday & Wednesday. I’m assuming that the first movie is for Tuesday and the second is for Wednesday. For Crossgates, they list Tuesday through Thursday, so what do they do on Thursday? Do they show the first movie listed again or the second? Or maybe both? Or was I wrong in my first assumption, and is there a choice each time?

Really, if you do go, I would love-love-love it if you can ask someone and then comment again so that we know. . . And if Ellen doesn’t get there but someone else does, could you ask? Thanks in advance.

Based on my attendance of a few of the movies last summer, they played BOTH movies each day. They had two separate theaters and both movies started at 10 am. Not sure if it’s still the same this summer but I’m assuming so.
