So, I wrote this post that I liked, but then I decided that it wouldn’t work for today. And now, look at me. It’s late and I’m sleepy and I’m starting from scratch! Yuck.
Luckily, I’ve been working on a little project, which is to include various entertainers to the Big Ol’ List of Links. If you have other entertainers that you’d like to recommend, let me know. I haven’t seen most of the people listed there (under E for Entertainment), so, just like anything else on the links, I’m just passing along a little information. Except that I do love Homespun Entertainment (which I’ve said before) and High Peaks Juggling (which I haven’t said before on the blog, so there it is–bam!)
Meanwhile, you know where I’ll be for some excellent entertainment a week from Saturday? (wait for it. . . wait for it. . . my nursery school friends know. . . .) Why, the 7th Annual Silent Auction for our nursery school & the Double H Ranch!
The first time I was getting ready to go to this thing, I was totally rolling my eyes about it. As you know, I am not a recreational shopper. It is not my cup of tea. And so, I went to my first silent auction because I felt like I must in order to be a good parent/co-op member. And then, after I went, it was all, woo, hoo! Bring on the Silent Auction! And it’s funny: I see it happen every year. Especially in the weeks before the event, committee members complain about how it’s too much work and such a pain in the neck and why don’t we all just chip in more cash and be done with it,* and afterwards, 9 out of 10 of the complainers are also saying Woo, hoo! We even have random moms’ group people come now. . . you know why?
Because it’s all this family-friendly stuff that generally goes for half-price! So you have a little dinner out at the Edison Club, and you chitchat with your friends, and if you’re lucky, you go home with delightfully underpriced merchandise. Of course, my problem is that I walk around and chitchat instead of vigilantly watching the various items that I want, so I lose out on the Y membership and the massage and the dance class and museum membership, and instead I end up with a freakin’ dry cleaning gift certificate. But, you know, whatever. I’m not bitter. Okay, a teensy bit bitter.
Anyway, it will be even more delightful this year because my cute husband is doing the Live Auction. No, he doesn’t talk really fast. But he is entertaining. In fact, I went through high school and college being the perky fun girl who was always attracted to tormented and brooding boys and men. My romantic specialty seemed to be Physical or Emotional Issues. I am so not kidding you. Just off the top of my head, I can think of: nerve disorder guy, epileptic guy, suicidal guy, and wheelchair guy.** So W was a breath of fresh air, because next to him, I am a wallflower. On the other hand, occasionally, next to him, I am a wallflower. But I’m so getting off track. This is what happens when you begin a rambling unplanned post too late at night. I’d better wrap this up and get to bed before I go on some sort of a Blogging TMI Bender–yikes!  I meant to say that W is entertaining–he’s done this once before, and when he recently did a little emcee gig for a church function, one of our (then) five-year-old friends asked if he could be the emcee for her upcoming birthday party.
So, if anybody wants to come, it’s on Saturday, April 24th at 6:30 at the Edison Club in Rexford for $25/person.
*In fairness, this year I’m not on the board (too busy doing other ridiculous amounts of unpaid work–ha, ha!–and so it’s quite possible that, for the first year ever, no one is complaining and everyone’s just plain excited. Truly, I do not mean to slander anyone–it is work.)
**Not that these guys didn’t have full lives and many aspects to their personalities and many beautiful gifts and all, but jeepers, there was a clearly a trend.

Yay!
