It was so beautiful out today that after taking a walk I had to bike back for my camera and take a picture.
I’ve got links to share.
- First, the KidsOutAndAbout.com newsletter for this week is available early–yay!
- Did you guys know about this forum tomorrow night? Here’s a quick quotation from the Times Union piece: “Alarmed by decreasing state aid and deep cuts to staff, leaders from five school districts are banding together for a public forum in an attempt to sway voters and elected leaders to their side. Students, parents, teachers and administrators from South Colonie, Schenectady, Niskayuna, Schoharie and Cobleskill-Richmondville schools will speak from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Sand Creek Middle School in Colonie.” I’m pretty sure that I can’t make this one. I thought it was strange that it wasn’t mentioned at my meeting last night (at least not while I was there–I left early when J ran out of steam and I couldn’t keep a lid on my crabbiness anymore).
- I was listening to a This American Life podcast in the car today, and a recent episode had a portion of Tig Notaro’s stand-up routine about a string of very, very bad events happening in her life. It’s one of those laugh-and-cry things, really worth the listen.
- A reader sent along this CNN piece about kids and politics and Bad Kitty.
- Did you hear that Liberty Ridge Farm, which is also a wedding venue, will not allow same-sex couples to get married there? I saw this first on Kristi Gustafson Barlette’s blog, couldn’t resist checking out the angry Facebook page comments and arguments, and by the evening it was a news story on WNYT Newschannel 13.
- I have been loving The Mindy Project. How about the rest of you–any reviews? I just plain love her, though. Yeah, okay, it’s not entirely groundbreaking. But it’s fun.
- From Upworthy, here are a couple of brief interviews with Malala Yousafzai, the 14-year-old girl from Pakistan shot by the Taliban for speaking up for girls’ rights to an education. The first one is from when she’s just 11.

Thank you for the link.

I teach in South Colonie and it ha been a big topic for all parents an teachers this week. We have had email blasts go out to both groups and it was spoken about at our PTA meeting last night. If anyone can attend, I urge you to do so. It’s time we stand together as a state an fight back against the cuts in education. Elected officials (many of whom have declined) and the media will be there…. Show your support an join us!

@Kristi, my pleasure as always!
Katie
@Lisa, I’m glad you’re going. I swear that my first email blast was, like, yesterday or night before last on this one. Which isn’t enough time to re-organize my carpooling/activities coordination. I’m frustrated that I didn’t hear earlier. Crap. Maybe some email was sent a week ago that I missed, but I try to keep track, and no one’s mentioned this to me.

The event and date was probably finalized/set early last week. It does seem like a quick turnaround…and I get the activities coordination! 🙂
Just re-read my comment and realized I left out way too many letters at the end of words….the joys of responding on a mobile device!
Cheri
They did mention it at the very end of the board meeting the other night. Although, it was literally after most folks had bailed so not a lot of people heard it. Can’t go but sounds good!
Katie
@Cheri, way to stick it out ’til the bitter end!
