The Kid Update

This really can’t be a kid update anymore, because they are almost-23 and and 20. They are fantastic.

M will be graduating in about a month, and she’s accepted a job in Madison Wisconsin, where she’s just signed a lease to live with two friends who’ll be working at the same place. It will likely be a lot of work, but it’s a great first job and will give her tons of experience. She’ll only be home for a couple of weeks between graduation and her start date, and she’s hoping to have acquired a car to drive in time to drive to her new home. Her goal was to live in a Midwestern city, so she’s psyched, and we’re psyched because we have a good friend whom we like to visit who lives there, too.

J is finishing up her second year of college and has scored a great research chemistry lab position for the summer, which is extremely wonderful news. These are competitive already, and since they are funded by the National Science Foundation, she applied with no idea if they would actually happen as usual or not. She is going to be down south, which means that she will be extremely hot all summer, but she’s looking forward to exploring a new region and meet a cohort of chemistry enthusiasts, and then she’s hoping to do some travel in August as well.

(I have knocked on wood about five times while writing all of this.)

J just spent the weekend visiting M because they decided that rather than joining the rest of the family for commencement weekend, it would be more fun for J to join M and her friends for a big campus party weekend. It was a whirlwind trip, and J is now back at her own campus, I presume feverishly catching up on work. Meanwhile M is cruising through her final semester, and since she’s taking a mere 12 credits and has a job well in hand, I expect that she is… not studying as hard as her younger sister right now after their sister weekend.
